Project: Wimbledon Bogie Drop

Wimbledon Depot is one of the busiest rail maintenance depots in the country, which is managed by South West Trains Network Rail Alliance.

The improvement works have seen the complete refurbishment of the bogie drop system, which allows an additional 108 carriages to be maintained at Wimbledon depot.

The depot opened in the 1970s and this is the first major refurbishment since then.

Hillcrest were approached to provide a full turn-key solution, with the primary steel frame, the internal metalwork structures and the cladding envelope forming part of Hillcrest’s scope of works.

The works included gantry crane beams, CAT ladders, metal grating floor to the internal platforms and steel staircases/handrailing.
